Essentially what it does is rake the litter collecting the waste clumps and dumping them into a waste receptacle.

Since the littermaid litter box rakes the litter 10 minutes after the cat leaves you need a litter that can clump and dry quickly. From all the reviews on all the different self cleaning litter boxes out there it looked like it was pretty much a crap shoot to get a good one. Besides its quiting to work in only 4 days the biggest problem with it is the waste box. Costly maintenance with disposable trays and crystal litters.

More durable than littermaid. That is the basic concept of littermaid.
